China's president is seeking to reassure his people – and the world – during what he called uncertain times.
Hu Jintao made the remarks in a New Year's Eve speech broadcast Saturday on Chinese state-run media.
President Hu said much of the uncertainty is the result of a shaky global economic recovery and also referenced turmoil in what he described as “international and regional hot spots.”
The Chinese leader did not offer many specifics but said Beijing remains committed to “safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.”
