British Prime Minister David Cameron sent an optimistic New Year's message for Britain, citing London's Summer Olympics and Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, celebrating the 60th year of her reign.
Mr. Cameron said Monday that while economic times are difficult, these events will focus the eyes of the world on the country, that 2012 “will be the year Britain sees the world, and the world sees Britain.”
He said the attention gives Britons incentive to look outward and to the future, and to feel pride in who they are and what they can achieve.
The prime minister said his coalition government will do everything it takes to get the country up to strength, saying 2012 is the year Britain must “go for it.”
Mr. Cameron added that he is aware people are worried about jobs and paying bills. But he said the government is taking action on both fronts.
