Family and friends of Whitney Houston will say farewell to the late music superstar on Saturday, at a funeral in the church where she sang as a child.

The invitation-only service will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, just outside New York. Houston's body arrived in New Jersey late Monday. Mourners have placed cards, flowers and notes for the singer outside the funeral home and the church.

The 48-year-old Houston, known for her soaring voice as well as personal lows, died Saturday at a luxury hotel in the wealthy California city of Beverly Hills.

Authorities told reporters Monday the singer was found underwater in her room's bathtub, but they cautioned that an exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

Toxicology test results will not be known for several more weeks.

The daughter of a noted gospel singer and the cousin of singer Dionne Warwick, Houston rose to music superstardom in the 1980s and 1990s with such multi-million-dollar hits as I Wanna Dance with Somebody, The Greatest Love of All, and I Will Always Love You.

But the career of the chart-topping, multi-Grammy winner was derailed by her tumultuous personal life that included drug abuse and rehab. She had one daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, from her marriage, which ended in divorce, to singer Bobby Brown.
