U.S. federal authorities say a person has been arrested in the area of the U.S. Capitol building as part of a “lengthy and extensive operation” with the FBI.

The U.S. Capitol Police said the individual had been “closely and carefully monitored” during the operation.

It said the public and members of the congressional community were never in any danger.
