Israeli air strikes Friday and early Saturday on the Gaza strip have killed at least 10 Palestinians, most or all of them militants. The air strikes came after Palestinians fired rockets into southern Israel.
The Popular Resistance Committees, a militant Palestinian group, says the Israeli air strikes killed its leader, Zohair al-Qaisi, and fellow member Mahmud Hanani. The Israeli military said the two militants were planning an attack on Israel from Egypt.
Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, has maintained a tacit truce with Israel, but other armed Palestinian groups, like the PRC, regularly fire rockets and mortars across the border, which can spark air strikes in response. The PRC has pledged to avenge its members' deaths.
