Activists say Syrian troops have fired mortar rounds in the central Syrian city of Homs.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the Khaldiyeh district of Homs has felt the shell onslaught since early Saturday. It was not immediately clear if there were casualties. Homs has seen some of the heaviest fighting in Syria's year-long uprising.
Meanwhile, joint U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan is traveling to Moscow and Beijing, the two countries that have blocked Security Council action against Syria since the deadly crackdowns on protests erupted.
