A U.S. Navy fighter jet has crashed into an apartment complex in the southern state of Virginia, but it was not immediately clear if there are any casualties on the ground.
A local official told CNN the two crew members ejected successfully from the plane and have been taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash damaged several buildings, which are believed to house elderly people.
Flames and smoke could be seen in the area, and emergency crews are on the scene.
The jet, an F/A-18 Hornet, was based at a nearby U.S. Naval air station in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
