Afghan officials say a car bomb has killed at least six people in the capital, Kabul, just hours after U.S. President Barack Obama left the city following an unannounced visit.

Kabul police say Wednesday's suicide car bombing was near Jalalabad road, the main road heading east from the capital. The attack apparently targeted a large heavily secured complex called the “Green Village” that houses hundreds of international workers.

Officials say the attack killed five civilians and a security guard. NATO said Afghan security forces have contained and killed all attackers.

Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the attack.

NATO spokesman General Carsten Jacobson call the bombing “another desperate attack” that resulted in the deaths of “innocent Afghan civilians.”

Witnesses heard at least one other explosion in the eastern part of the capital. Gunfire followed the blasts.

During Mr. Obama's quick visit, he signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement with his Afghan counterpart, Hamid Karzai.
