A 73-year old Japanese mountaineer has climbed Mount Everest, smashing her record to again become the oldest woman to scale the world's highest peak.
Tamae Watanabe reached the 8,850-meter summit Saturday with four other team members, climbing Everest from its Tibetan side.
Watanabe had scaled the mountain in 2002 when she first claimed the title of oldest female Everest summiteer. She retained the title until she topped herself Saturday.
Min Bahadur Sherchan from Nepal is the oldest man to conquer the mountain. He reached the summit in 2008 at the age of 76.
