An Italian emergency official says a bomb exploded outside a vocational school in southern Italy Saturday morning, killing a teenage girl and injuring as many as six people.

Officials are denying a media report that a second person has died, saying only, the victim is in very serious condition but alive.

The bomb exploded as students were arriving at the Morvillo-Falcone vocational institute in the Adriatic port town of Brindisi. The school is named after a murdered anti-Mafia prosecutor and his wife.

The official said there may have been more than one explosion. Local media reports say the bomb may have been placed in a container near the school.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the blast.
