Turkish media say a suspected suicide car bomber set off explosives outside a Turkish police station Friday, killing one police officer and wounding 20 other people.

The reports say the bomber tried to ram the police station with the vehicle when the explosion occurred in the town of Pinarbasi in the central province of Kayseri.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the deadly attack, but Kurdish rebels, seeking independence in southern Turkey have waged attacks on police in the past.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims.
