U.S. first lady Michelle Obama can now add the title of author to her resume.

The wife of U.S. President Barack Obama is making the television rounds this week to promote her new book on the White House garden she started in 2009.

The book, titled American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America, includes personal stories, photos, recipes and gardening tips. It also highlights the first lady's campaign to fight childhood obesity.

Appearing on the ABC television show Good Morning America Tuesday, Mrs. Obama said the book — her first –reflects a passion of hers.

“It is definitely a passion, you know getting our kids in this country eating healthy, helping families make good choices about how they eat and stay active, and this book is a way to talk about our journey but also talk about the challenges we face as a nation around health and what we can do to move forward on some of these issues.”

American Grown hit store shelves Tuesday with a $30 price tag. Mrs. Obama got no advance payment for the book . All proceeds will go to the National Park Foundation, which raises private funds for the country's nearly 400 national parks.

Mrs. Obama also addressed criticism of her anti-obesity efforts in Tuesday's interview on ABC. She said the “Let's Move” campaign is not aimed at telling people how to live.

“This isn't about government telling people what to do. What we know we need to do is give parents, communities, families the tools and the information they need to make choices that are right for them, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution.”
