Police in Nepal say unknown gunmen have shot dead a Supreme Court justice who was under investigation for corruption.
Authorities said Rana Bahadur Bam was in a car on the way to his office Thursday in Katmandu when gunmen shot both him and his bodyguard.
Bam was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Nepal's Judiciary Council has been investigating allegations that Bam took bribes from criminals in exchange for lighter sentences.
His killing comes days after the country's parliament missed a deadline to craft a new constitution.
The Constituent Assembly began working in 2008 after the abolition of Nepal's centuries-old Hindu monarchy. But after
having extended its tenure four times, the Supreme Court rejected any further extensions.
Elections are scheduled for November 22 to choose a new assembly.
