Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova won her first French Open title with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sara Errani of Italy on the red clay at Roland Garros in Paris Saturday.

Sharapova is now the 10th woman in tennis history to win all four Grand Slam tournaments. She has also captured Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the Australian Open one time each.

Sharapova, heavily favored in Saturday's match, grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first set.

The 21st-seeded Errani, who was playing in her first Grand Slam, battled Sharapova to force some long rallies. But Errani ultimately succumbed to Sharapova's bigger serves and groundstrokes. Sharapova stood 23 centimeters taller than her opponent.

Sharapova will now become the top-ranked women's player in the world.

Novak Djokovic of Serbia will play Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the men's French Open final on Sunday.
