Rafael Nadal of Spain has captured a record seventh men's French Open tennis crown, defeating Novak Djokovic of Serbia in four sets, 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
Nadal had to wait until Monday to make history in Paris because the match was suspended early in the fourth set Sunday evening because of rain.
Nadal broke his tie with Sweden's Bjorn Borg, who won six French Open titles at Roland Garros, and the Spanish star ended Djokovic's hopes of becoming the third man to win four consecutive grand slam tournaments.
The match picked up Monday with Djokovic serving at 2-1 in the fourth set, and he was immediately broken. There were no more break points until championship point. Djokovic double faulted on his serve to end the match.
