U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in Mongolia on an Asian tour aimed at promoting democracy.

Clinton quickly went into talks with President Tsakhia Elbegdorj, and is scheduled to speak later Monday to an International Women's Leadership forum being held in the capital, Ulan Bator.

The top U.S. diplomat arrived in Ulan Bator in the aftermath of June 28 elections, in which some parties say a new automated voting system to elect the Great Hural, Mongolia's parliament, had failed.

Clinton will also make stops in Laos and Vietnam this week before leaving the region.
