Afghan President Hamid Karzai has ordered a probe into the suicide bombing at a wedding reception in a northern province, saying “the enemies of Afghanistan once again targeted innocent civilians.”
At least 23 people were killed in the attack Saturday in Samangan province, including lawmaker Ahmad Khan Samangani and General Mohammad Khan, the provincial intelligence director.
Another member of parliament, a police commander, and a former governor were injured in the attack in the provincial capital of Aybak.
Authorities say the suicide bomber embraced the father of the bride, Samangani, before blowing himself up.
No one has claimed responsibility but General John Allen, head of NATO forces in Afghanistan, blamed the Taliban saying, “Their depravity clearly knows no bounds.”
