Actor Christian Bale, who plays Batman in The Dark Knight Rises, has visited fans wounded in last week's mass shooting during a screening of the film at a theater in Colorado.
Bale met with seven of the victims Tuesday at a hospital in the city of Aurora, posing for pictures and thanking doctors and police officers. The hospital's chief said the patients were happy to meet the star, calling his visit therapeutic.
Bale and his wife also visited the memorial set up outside the theater, somberly looking at the piles of flowers and messages left to honor the victims.
The actor said he could not express his horror when he found out that someone had opened fire on an audience watching The Dark Knight Rises last Friday night, killing 12 and wounding 58.
Suspect James Holmes is being held in solitary confinement awaiting his next court appearance. He has said nothing to police about his motive.
