Tensions are high in Anaheim, California, because of a handful of fatal shootings involving police officers this year.

Protesters tossed rocks and bottles at police Tuesday night, after they were shut out of a city council meeting, where city officials were discussing the shootings. The police responded by firing non-lethal bean bags Some angry demonstrators broke the windows of a Starbucks coffee shop as the crowd marched away from city hall. Police say at least five people have been arrested.

Tuesday's demonstrations were the fourth straight day of protests over the shootings, which have left five people dead. Two shootings occurred last week — an unarmed man was killed after a foot chase on Saturday, followed by an incident Sunday when a man in a stolen vehicle was killed after engaging police in a gun battle.

Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait has called for state and federal officials to investigate Saturday's fatal shooting. The city council has asked a federal prosecutor to investigate the shootings in Tuesday's meeting.

Anaheim is more than 50 kilometers southeast of Los Angeles.

It is a city of contrasts and is home of the Disneyland amusement park.
