The International Criminal Court says it has postponed an August 13 hearing for former Ivory Coast president Laurent Gbagbo, pending a decision on whether he is healthy enough to appear.

The court said Friday that, at the request of defense lawyers, three doctors have been appointed to assess Mr. Gbagbo.

Mr. Gbagbo faces four counts of crimes against humanity stemming from violence after he lost the presidential election in Ivory Coast in November of 2010.

Ivorian rebel forces arrested him in April. His arrest marked an end to months of fighting that killed 3,000 people and displaced more than one million.
