U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Malawi President Joyce Banda in the small African country on Sunday.
Secretary Clinton said she strongly supports President Banda and her government.
Ms. Banda, Malawi's first woman president, said they both have long been advocates for women and children. The president told Secretary Clinton she had been looking forward to the day they would meet.
The top U.S. diplomat is on an 11-day tour of Africa.
She will next travel to South Africa, Nigeria, Benin and Ghana.
So far, Clinton has made stops in Senegal, Uganda, South Sudan and Kenya.
During a visit to Nairobi on Saturday, Clinton urged Kenyans to work for free and fair elections scheduled for March, after deadly post-election violence five years ago.
