Afghan President Hamid Karzai has denounced a remote-controlled bombing Tuesday that killed nine civilians and wounded five others.
The blast struck a bus in Paghman, just west of Kabul. The local police chief says the person who planted the bomb has been arrested.
Mr. Karzai said in a statement that terrorists who target innocent civilians during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan are neither Muslims nor Afghans, and that they will “achieve nothing but public abhorrence.”
Also Tuesday, police say a truck bomb exploded outside a NATO base in Logar province, south of Kabul, wounding at least 11 civilians. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
France also said one of its soldiers was killed and another wounded Tuesday in a firefight with insurgents in Kapisa province.
NATO had said earlier one of its coalition service members had been killed in an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan, but did not provide the soldier's nationality.
