More rains have drenched the already flooded Philippine capital, Manila, sending rescuers in boats to retrieve residents stranded by high water.

Some of the residents who evacuated Thursday after heavy overnight rains had returned to their homes only hours earlier.

Riverside areas like Manila's Marikina district have been particularly hit hard by the floods, which officials say have affected about two million people in the city. Nearly 300,000 people have sought shelter in evacuation centers.

At least 20 people have died in Manila as the result of flooding powered by more than a week of monsoon rains.
