The World Food Program has begun the first in a series of airdrops of food aid to refugees living on the border of Sudan and South Sudan.

The airdrops were made Wednesday in Maban County in South Sudan's Upper Nile state.

The agency says the delivery consisted of 32 metric tons of wheat, enough to feed 2,100 people.

More than 100,000 refugees have crossed from Sudan into neighboring South Sudan's Maban region to escape violence in the states of Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan. Sudan's armed forces have been fighting rebels in both states since last year.
