U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky is the son of 2012 presidential candidate Ron Paul.
The younger Paul will address the Republican National Convention in person Wednesday, while his father will address the gathering via video.
Rand Paul was an eye surgeon for 18 years before joining Congress. He was elected in 2010 due to strong support from the Tea Party, a faction of the Republican Party that calls for reducing the size and reach of the federal government.
On his first day in the Senate last year, Paul introduced a bill that would have cut $500 billion from the federal budget within one year. His Senate website says it is the “duty of lawmakers to introduce responsible legislation that will rein in spending.”
