Police faced off with a group of about 100 protesters aligned with the “Occupy” movement, arresting at least one, near the site of the Democratic National Convention.
The protesters began gathering at the intersection just before midday Tuesday, not far from the Charlotte Convention Center, shouting slogans like “Obama is a traitor.” Others lay down in the street.
The demonstration immediately drew the attention of local police who surrounded the protesters, telling them to leave the intersection and move toward a nearby park. Police said most of the protesters eventually moved but that at least one person was arrested.
Some of the protesters called for the release of Bradley Manning, a former U.S. Army intelligence analyst accused of leaking thousands of classified documents related to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the WikiLeaks website.
