South Korea says seven North Korean fishing boats have crossed a disputed sea border off the countries' west coast.

The South Korean defense ministry said Wednesday the North Korean boats returned to their side of the border after a South Korean navy ship broadcast a warning message.

It was the second such incident involving North Korean boats this year.

The area has been the site of three bloody naval clashes between the two countries since 1999.
