Flooding has killed at least 18 people and displaced nearly two-million others in India's northeastern Assam state.

Military and disaster relief teams have launched rescue and relief operations delivering food and medicine and moving others to higher ground.

The state's disaster management officials say hundreds of relief camps have been set up across the to assist flood victims.

Sixteen of the Assam's 27 districts have been affected by the floods, but rising levels in the Brahmaputra River threaten some of the state's lower-lying areas.

In July, nearly 80 people were killed and thousands displaced as a result of flooding triggered by seasonal monsoon rains.

The state of Assam is known for its hilly tea-growing areas.
