Officials in Iraq say a wave of bombings hit the country Sunday, killing at least 17 people and wounding scores of others.

The deadliest attack was a series of three car bombings in Taji, just north of the capital, Baghdad. Officials says the bombings killed eight people and wounded more than 20 others.

A suicide bomber south of Baghdad in Kut killed at least three police officers and wounded several others. And in Balad Ruz, northeast of the capital, a car bomb killed two policemen. Other towns also were hit with attacks.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for Sunday's deadly explosions.
