A Sudanese official says a military plane crashed Sunday outside the capital, Khartoum, causing several casualties.

A military spokesman says information is being gathered on the number of victims and extent of their injuries.

Reuters news agency reports some on board were killed.

The Sudanese spokesman said the Antonov 12 plane traveling from Khartoum to El Fasher was also carrying military equipment when it went down in rural area.

The crash is under investigation.
