Officials in northwest Pakistan say heavily armed militants have attacked a police station, killing six police officers.

Authorities say the attack began late Sunday night in Matni, on the outskirts of Peshawar.

Officials say the insurgents set fire to the police station and burned at least three police vehicles before fleeing.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
