Police in central Nigeria say at least 30 people have been killed in fighting between Muslim herdsmen and Christian villagers.

Officials say the fighting occurred Sunday in Benue state when the mainly Fulani herdsmen attacked a village of Christian Tivs, burning homes and farmland and leaving several injured.

Police say the clash was triggered by a land dispute.

Fighting between the two groups left more than 40 dead earlier this year.
