A multi-storey shopping center has collapsed in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, and dozens of people are feared trapped in the rubble.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene and began pulling people from the debris after the collapse early Wednesday.

Witnesses say at least one person was killed. There was no immediate word on what caused the collapse.

President John Dramani Mahama has cut short a campaign tour in the north of Ghana to return to Accra. The West African country holds elections next month.
