India has begun stamping its own map on visas it issues to Chinese visitors.
The action is in response to new Chinese passports that include a map showing two regions that India claims — Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin — as part of China. The Indian map shows the regions as belonging to India.
While the flap over the map comes amid strained ties between the two Asian giants, it was not immediately clear if India has registered a formal compliant with China.
The map of China in the Chinese passports also includes disputed territories in the South China Sea that the Philippines and Vietnam claim.
The Philippines and Vietnam responded to the Chinese map by lodging official complaints with Beijing.
China's map also included Taiwan which China has long claimed.
