China's official news agency says the People's Liberation Army's navy has successfully landed a fighter jet on its new aircraft carrier for the first time.
The Xinhua news agency said Sunday that the landing exercise marked the debut of the carrier-based J-15 fighter jet, developed in China.
China purchased the former Soviet navy's unfinished carrier from Ukraine in 1998 and spent years refurbishing it. The carrier, named the Liaoning, was commissioned on September 25.
