U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba is a danger to India and could also be a threat to the United States.
Napolitano Thursday said Thursday that Lashkar is “al-Qaida-like” in its “strength and organization.”
Napolitano held security cooperation talks in India last week, where she and Indian officials discussed ways to fight terrorism.
India has long accused Pakistan of supporting the Islamist militants who carried out the November 2008 terrorist attacks on the Indian financial center of Mumbai. The attackers — who included Lashkar-e-Taiba members — took over a hotel, Jewish center, and several other buildings for three days, leaving 166 people dead.
