At least 22 people were burned to death in India when a bus hit a culvert, overturned and caught fire.
Authorities said the accident occurred late Tuesday about 40 kilometers from the city of Vellore in the state of Tamil Nadu. Police say the driver of the bus lost control as he tried to avoid two trucks that had collided ahead of him. Indian news media said the driver and one passenger survived the accident.
The World Health Organization says India has the highest annual road death toll in the world, with accidents caused by speeding, careless driving and poor roads.
