Japanese share prices ended lower Monday, while the dollar rose against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped seven-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,448.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.48 yen, up slightly from late Friday.

The Taipei market fell 1.41 percent , to close at 8,713.
