Football's world governing body FIFA has dropped its bribery investigation against vice-president Jack Warner after he resigned all of his positions in international football Monday.

The 68-year-old Warner, who also has been the long-time head of the North, Central American and Caribbean Federation , had been suspended last month.

Warner, from Trinidad, and Asian football chief Mohamed bin Hammam of Qatar were both suspended after allegations that cash gifts of $40,000 were offered to Caribbean voters in an attempt to topple FIFA president Sepp Blatter in the presidential election earlier this month.

Bin Hammam and Warner were targeted after American Chuck Blazer, general secretary of CONCACAF, reported possible misdeeds during the May 10 and 11 conference in Trinidad.

Warner was the longest serving member of FIFA's executive committee with nearly 30 years of service.

FIFA said it regretted “the turn of events that have led to Mr. Warner's decision” to resign. It said that as a consequence of the resignation, all ethics committee procedures against him “have been closed and the presumption of innocence is maintained.”
