Lebanese media report the United Nations backed tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri has issued four arrest warrants and a sealed indictment to Lebanon’s prosecutor general.

The reports say at least two of the arrest warrants are for members of the Hezbollah militant group.

Lebanon’s former prime minister Saad Hariri says the indictments mark a “historic moment.”

The development comes just two weeks after Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced a long-delayed coalition government dominated by the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah and its allies.

Lebanon had functioned without an official government since mid-January, when Hezbollah and its allies forced the collapse of then-Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s pro-Western government.

The Hezbollah-led group withdrew from the national unity Cabinet at that time due to disagreements about the tribunal’s investigation of the assassination of Mr. Hariri’s father, Rafik Hariri, in a 2005 Beirut truck bombing.
