Australian authorities are seeking to extend a temporary flight ban imposed on the Singapore-based budget carrier Tiger Airways amid safety concerns.

Australia's air safety regulator barred the airline from operating domestic flights July 2 for a week, citing “serious and imminent” safety risks.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority announced Wednesday that it will seek a court order to enforce the flight ban on the carrier until August 1, because it needs time to address outstanding concerns.

The company has not responded to the announcement. But it issued a statement late Wednesday, saying that the head of Tiger's Australian operations, Crawford Rix, is leaving at the end of the month.

He will be replaced by Tony Davis, president and CEO of the airline's parent company Tiger Airways Holdings.
