Singapore has released a British author who was imprisoned for more than a month on contempt charges.

Alan Shadrake was released Saturday and is expected to be deported to London.

The 76-year-old author's contempt charges stemmed from his book, Once a Jolly Hangman: Singapore Justice in the Dock, denouncing Singapore's use of mandatory executions for drug trafficking crimes.
