Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are in the western U.S. city of Santa Barbara, California, to participate in a charity polo match.

People attending the event at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club have paid $400 a ticket for the cheap seats while VIP tickets sold for $4,000 each.

Prince William will play in the polo match, while the duchess will hand out the trophy to the winning team before returning to Los Angeles.

The event is expected to raise millions of dollars.

Later Saturday, the young royals will attend an event honoring British filmmakers. They will also attend a fundraiser for British charities while promoting U.S. investment in Britain.

The newly married couple arrived in Los Angeles Friday after a nine-day trip to Canada, their first foreign excursion since getting married in April. They will spend three days in southern California.

Kate is making her first visit to the United States.
