US President Barack Obama says the biggest priority of his administration is putting the economy back on track and getting people back to work.
The U.S. Labor Department reported Friday that the nation’s unemployment rate had increased to 9.2 percent. The report indicated that the number of new jobs being created was slowing.
At the White House Monday, the president said any economic package agreed with Congress may not be exactly what he wants, but he is willing to move in the direction of Republicans to get something done.
He says the revenue components in the deal will be significant, but any additional taxes will target only Americans who can most afford them.
