U.S. weather forecasters say Tropical Storm Dora has formed in the Pacific off southern Mexico and could reach hurricane strength by Wednesday. The system, however, is expected to remain out to sea.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami says in its latest advisory Monday that the tropical storm has wind speeds of 65 kilometers per hour. Dora is currently 645 kilometers south-southeast of Salina Cruz, Mexico, moving west at 19 kilometers per hour.
Elsewhere, a tropical storm warning is in effect for Grand Bahama and the Abaco islands in the northwest Bahamas as Tropical Storm Bret swirls in the Atlantic, 160 kilometers north of Great Abaco island. The storm is currently moving north-northeast at 9 kilometers per hour with 85 kilometer-per-hour winds. Bret is expected to strengthen in next day or so.
Forecasters say Bret could dump up to 10 centimeters of rain over the northwest Bahamas.
