Japanese share prices plummeted Friday, while the dollar slipped against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped 3.72 percent , to close at 9,300.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 78.55 yen, down one-third of a yen from late Thursday.

The Taipei market tumbled 5.58 percent , to close at 7,853.
