Tropical Storm Gert is expected to drop 2 to 7 centimeters of rain on Bermuda Monday as it passes by the Atlantic island.
Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said early Monday the storm had maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour as its outer edge neared Bermuda.
The storm is expected to gain some strength as the center passes to the east of the island, which is under tropical storm warnings. Forecasters expect the storm will then turn back out to sea, away from the U.S. east coast.
Gert is the seventh named storm of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, but none of the storms have developed into hurricanes.
