Officials in Seoul says armed Libyan looters attacked the South Korean embassy in Tripoli Sunday and tried to steal furniture and electronics.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Shin Maeng-ho told reporters Monday that about 10 attackers fled empty-handed when rebel forces contacted by embassy staff arrived on the scene. The anti-Gadhafi rebels have controlled most of Tripoli since last week.
South Korea moved most of its embassy officials to Tunisia in May, amid escalating violence and NATO air strikes. Shin said no one was injured among the small staff that remained.
South Korea has officially recognized Libya's rebel-led council as the legitimate government and has pledged to offer humanitarian aid to the Transitional National Council.
