A Lithuanian military plane has collided with a French fighter jet during a NATO training flight, but none of the pilots involved was seriously injured.

The crash occurred Tuesday near the Zokniai airbase in northern Lithuania when a Lithuanian L-39 Albatross and a French Mirage 2000 collided in midair.

The Mirage suffered minor damage and successfully returned to land at the airbase. The Albatross was guided to a lightly populated swamp area, where it crashed after both of its pilots successfully ejected. No injuries were reported on the ground.

Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia joined the NATO alliance and the European Union in 2004. But since the three Baltic nations lack the resources to patrol their own airspace, NATO warplanes from various member states have provided assistance.
