A new U.S. opinion poll indicates that a majority of U.S. voters say President Barack Obama does not deserve another four years in office.
The Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday shows 51 percent of registered voters say Mr. Obama should not be reelected, compared to 42 percent who say he should be a two-term president.
Still, the voters were evenly split on their view of Mr. Obama — 47 percent say they had a favorable opinion of him, while 47 percent report an unfavorable view.
Mr. Obama was tied in a race against Republican presidential hopeful and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney — with both candidates receiving 45 percent support — and, because of the margin of error in the poll, was essentially tied in a race with Texas Governor Rick Perry.
The poll found that in a race between Mr. Obama and Governor Perry, the president would get 45 percent of the vote compared to 42 percent for Perry. The poll's margin of error is 3 percent.
Mr. Obama's ratings, as well as those of lawmakers, have slipped as the U.S. economy continues to struggle.
An opinion poll published by Gallup earlier this month gave the president a 39 percent job approval rating, the lowest since he took office. Other polls give Congress a much lower approval rating.
